Students with disabilities pursuing education are a very proud accomplishment. These students may come from families with different financial backgrounds without a college-going tradition. Some have parents who support their education plans; others are under family pressure to enter the workforce right after high school. Often, these students do not know their education options, and they may have fears about going to college and misconceptions about their capabilities.

We recognise that these students will face unique experiences as they begin this exciting journey, and we look forward to supporting them. In every generation, leaders emerge. Students who can gain a graduate education have many more excellent opportunities. This cell is formed as per the communication received from UGC on 4 th December 2019, to help these students to complete their graduation.

CIMAT of External Affairs adopted a policy to affect the principles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006), Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017.

Preamble

CIMAT of External Affairs recognises the value of a diverse workforce and an inclusive and enabling work environment. CIMAT is committed to ensuring equal opportunities for people with disabilities and providing an environment and work culture inclusive of them. CIMAT seek to act proactively to facilitate their full participation in the ministry's work. CIMAT is also committed to ensuring that individuals with disabilities can interact with CIMAT in an optimal environment for their needs.

Policy framework

CIMAT is committed to providing the following for people with disabilities:

✓ CIMAT will ensure that the work environment is free from discrimination against persons with disabilities and that no opportunity is denied to persons with disabilities. Only on the ground or the disability.

✓ CIMAT shall supportively consider the requestor persons with disabilities concerning intra-transfer/posting optimally utilising their services to the extent possible.

✓ Provide barrier-free access and assistive devices, including, but not limited to ramp facilities, where feasible, at entrances; handrails and guardrails; Accessible elevators.

✓ Ensure that there are adequate public facilities for people with disabilities. Including but not limited to enabled washrooms. And the availability of potable water on all floors.

✓ Designate dedicated parking spots near suitable access points for the exclusive use of people with disabilities.

✓ Ensure that caregivers (when people with disabilities have to be accompanied by caregivers) are provided with requisite access or facilities to enable them to assist the said person.

✓ CIMAT will ensure that all public documents, including websites, are in accessible formats.

✓ CIMAT shall ensure that the provisions for equal opportunity are enjoyed equally by women with disabilities

✓ CIMAT shall include awareness and sensitisation training programmes for employees.

✓ This policy shall be given appropriate publicity prominently on the institution's websites.

Term: The term of the nominated members shall be three years.

Meeting: The ECC shall meet at least twice a year or when necessary.
